About The Precinct Naseby

 

Naseby District

 

Naseby is located on the vast Maniototo plain, Central Otago, about ten kilometres north of Ranfurly, off State Highway 85, running between the towns of Palmerston and Alexandra. The area has a dry climate with hot summers and cold, often snowy winters.

Naseby is the perfect location for outdoor sports enthusiasts, with numerous biking and walking tracks, swimming and fishing. Naseby is famous for its winter sports facilities, including the international indoor curling rink and outdoor ice luge. With close proximity to the Central Otago Rail Trail, it is an ideal end destination. Historians will enjoy learning about the areas gold mining history and spending time in the locally run Early Settlers Museum.

 

30 Derwent Street

Formerly part of the Naseby Police Camp

 

30 Derwent Street, now known as 'The Precinct Naseby', once formed a part of the Naseby Police Camp . This was established in 1863, and later used as the Naseby Forest Headquarters. The site of the former Police Camp has been recorded as archaeological site H41/181 in the NZ Archaeological Association’s site recording scheme.
